The Tech Giant’s Chief Executive Expresses Disappointment Regarding Alleged China AI Chip Purchase Ban

Nvidia Executive Jensen Huang

The chief of Nvidia has stated that he is "disappointed" by claims indicating that China has instructed its major technology companies to cease purchasing the firm’s artificial intelligence processors.

Jensen Huang noted that he plans to be "patient" in reacting to this move by the Chinese cyberspace authority.

"There are a lot of places we can't go to, and that's fine," he told reporters on midweek.

Nvidia, which earlier faced a restriction on selling its most advanced chips to China, had seen that ban reversed in July.

Under a previous agreement, the company must pay 15% of its Chinese income to the US government.

On Wednesday, news emerged that the Chinese Cyberspace Administration had reportedly instructed tech companies to halt use of Nvidia chips developed exclusively for the local market.

Shares of the US-based firm dropped by over one percent in premarket trading.

Mr Huang stated that he would "stand by American policies" as they attempt to resolve international challenges, and would convey the identical message if questioned during meetings later.

The firm recently achieved status as the first company globally to surpass a four trillion dollar valuation.

The company’s processors are integral to the worldwide AI boom, running server farms across the world.

China, on the other hand, strives to rival US dominance in AI and has been developing domestic chips as within its broader technology plan.

Leading Chinese companies such as Tencent had before purchased the company’s processors prior to the new purchase restriction.

The chipmaker was among multiple US tech firms that revealed funding in the UK as part of a bilateral technology agreement.

This involves supplying processors for the a major computing facility set to open in north-east England, in partnership with NScale.
