The former Liverpool manager admits coming back to lead Liverpool is theoretically possible.
Jurgen Klopp, who left Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback remains something that could happen. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful nine-season tenure featuring Champions League success and the Reds’ first league title for three decades, now holds roles as head of global soccer within the Red Bull organization and as an advisor for the DFL.
Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments
Liverpool won the league title under Arne Slot, yet numerous supporters who adore the manager would embrace the possibility that he might come back one day. Speaking candidly, he explained to his interviewer: “I stated I won't manage another team within the country. Which implies if then it’s Liverpool...yeah. It's plausible.”
“Being 58, so I could make the decision in a few years, it's uncertain. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. Luckily, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding which situations would have to unfold to bring him back to the touchline, he revealed he isn't eager toward coming back. “I don’t even know exactly, I enjoy my current role,” he said. “I don't crave being a coach; I avoid standing in the rain for two-and-a-half or three hours; I don’t miss going to media briefings repeatedly each week or constant media duties each week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, however, dining out with the team talking freely, is pleasant. We won a lot of games thus frequently a very good mood in the building. I can still hear Van Dijk's laughter vividly recalled for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
He commended of the current boss, crediting him for the tweaks which secured the championship last term. They've been defeated four consecutive matches in every contest after a summer spending spree, though he denied the notion it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward in Flo[rian] Wirtz, you will all eat your words if you use the wrong words. He’s an incredible talent. The French striker, incredible player. It’s a really good well-judged squad. No need for concern over the club, they'll bounce back.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of Diogo Jota, whom he brought in while in charge, and its impact on Liverpool. The Portugal international was killed in a car crash alongside his brother in July.
“Who can fill the void of somebody like Diogo? It goes beyond his on-field talent, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the squad without him in it. Putting it into words is tough regarding this. A devastating blow for his teammates also. No one within the club would cite it for poor performances but it is the situation. You walk in a dressing room which he filled completely. Handling this on a personal level is difficult. Unbearable.”
