Woodward emphasized that Redford played a key role in exposing the Watergate scandal, urging both Woodward and Carl Bernstein to narrate the events through the lens of their firsthand reporting. This collaboration resulted in the release of their book All the President’s Men in June 1974, which came before the president’s stepping down months afterward. Redford secured the film adaptation rights and appeared alongside Dustin Hoffman in the celebrated cinematic version.

Woodward mentioned discussions held not long ago with Redford, in which the actor stated that he had revisited All the President’s Men in recent years and was “taken aback” by how relevant and current it remained, noting that “little has really changed”.
