Manchester Synagogue Attack: A Casualty Appears to Have Been Shot by Police
In a devastating turn of events, one of the individuals killed during the Manchester synagogue assault appears to have been fatally wounded by armed police officers.
Police Announcement Reveals Gunshot Wound
The chief constable of Greater Manchester Police stated that the Home Office pathologist has provisionally determined the man died of a bullet injury.
“We sought guidance overnight from the Home Office pathologist before detailed autopsies scheduled for this afternoon. The expert has advised that preliminary findings show one of the deceased victims likely sustained a injury consistent with a firearm wound.”
Suspect Details
The suspect, Jihad al-Shamie, did not have a gun, and the only shots fired came from the police officers on site.
Authorities think the deceased was among those positioned at the entrance seeking to prevent the attacker from gaining entry.
Consequences of Police Action
“Thus, it appears pending additional analysis, this injury may sadly have been sustained as a unintended and heartbreaking result of the urgently required action employed by my officers to bring this vicious attack to an end.”
Victims Identified
The two victims killed in the attack during the synagogue incident located in Manchester earlier this week had been named as 53-year-old Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz, 66 years old.
These individuals were killed when a vehicle was employed to ram into the property of the local Jewish place of worship, before the attacker targeted attendees in a six-minute rampage that ended only when police with firearms fired upon him, ending his life at the door of the temple.
Additional Injuries
Three others were seriously injured in the attack on the Day of Atonement, the most sacred occasion in the Jewish calendar.
The chief constable added, “Medical professionals have informed us that one of the three victims currently receiving treatment has also suffered a gunshot wound, which is fortunately non-fatal. Officials think both victims were near each other behind the synagogue door, as attendees showed courage to stop the assailant from gaining entry.”
