Man Who Reached For Ariana Grande during Premiere Prohibited from Singapore
A man from Australia who vaulted over a barricade and grabbed actress Ariana Grande has been deported and banned from Singapore.
The individual, 26, was given a sentence to nine days in jail for being a public nuisance and has now been "prohibited from returning to Singapore," the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority informed news outlets.
The man shoved through camera crews and approached aggressively the performer and artist, who was present at the regional launch for Wicked: For Good on the thirteenth of November. Co-performer Cynthia Erivo pulled him back from Grande.
Wen has a history of disrupting concerts and star-studded occasions, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in the past June.
The incident provoked strong reactions in Singapore, with several individuals claiming he of causing further distress to the star.
The celebrity has spoken of dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a suicide bomb attack at her concert in Manchester in several years ago took the lives of over twenty people and hurt numerous attendees.
Throughout the court proceedings, the judge was informed he had tried to gain access on the red carpet event on two occasions, according to local news sources.
He then made a second attempt to jump the barricades. Security staff stopped him and restrained him.
Wen later posted videos expressing gratitude to the star for letting him on the carpet and said he was "free."
Police took him into custody the next day and brought charges against him with causing a disturbance, to which Wen pleaded guilty.
The District Judge the judicial official was referenced by a news outlet as remarking that Wen was "attention seeking", noting that he was incorrect to assume he would not face any penalties.
The singer has not commented on the case.
Erivo spoke about the incident to NBC, saying that she "simply desired to verify my colleague was safe."
"I'm sure he had no intention to us injury, but you cannot be certain with those things, and I sought to make sure that she was fine. That was my first instinct," she commented.
