Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has beaten his teammate at all of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the championship lead from Piastri by a single point after his victory in Mexico City recently, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before sprint qualifying due at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, trailing 36 points behind Norris, ended up in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, though minor, when he rotated at Turn Four soon after starting.
The Japanese lost control over the track edges before spinning across the run-off area, and was fortunate to get away with just a light touch of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the very end of the session, spinning around through the quick descending corner approaching the last turn on to the main straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th place, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619 seconds behind the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
