Canada's Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Matchup Against Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder contributed to the Astros winning the championship in 2017.

Canada's MLB team reached their maiden championship series following the 1993 season by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh game seven of the ALCS.

Trailing three runs to one, Springer hit a three-run blast in the seventh, leading the Toronto squad in the majors to a four games to three triumph in the series. They will now face the defending champions, the team that is the reigning title, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.

"I'm just so happy for our team, Toronto, Canada," commented Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 championship. "This is such an unbelievable moment."

Springer has now hit 23 playoff homers, placing him third in history behind Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"I can't think of another player in the world that I want up in that situation except for Springer with his October magic," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, despite leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, remain the only MLB franchise never to appear in a Fall Classic.

Wilson said "certainly that it's going to sting" following his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but commended their efforts this season.

"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of the series," he added.

Toronto secured the World Series on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and will welcome the Dodgers in the opener on Friday.
