Latest Status

Last week, officials briefly reduced the search, only to restart it on this week alongside 80 military staff.

"Spokesperson authorities said officials were searching a wider zone based on updated analyses from survival and operation professionals, rather than any recent developments."

Operation Difficulties

On the end of last week, police stated that the recent search had not found any signs of Gus.

"The fact that the young boy is a little boy, the terrain is particularly rough, unforgiving and affected by unpredictable climate has made the searching challenging and more challenging for those engaged," officials said in a release.

About 470 square kilometers - an zone roughly twice the size of urban center - has now been covered, and a specialized team created recently is expected to continue looking into. Officials have not excluded more searches of the area in the time ahead.

Information and Public Response

The boy, who has been described as an explorative but quiet youngster, was observed wearing a dark hat, pale gray pants, boots and a blue long-sleeve shirt showing a bright cartoon design.

The case has provoked huge attention around Australia, with images of the fair-haired, curly-headed child featured across local media and discussion circulating extensively online.

It caused police to ask that individuals cease phoning them with their "speculations", and request for them to obtain details from credible channels.

Family Response

Authorities lately said the child's loved ones continue to be "resilient" despite the heartbreaking situation.

"One can understand just how they are coping... without having clarity as to precisely where their child is and what's transpired to him. This would be traumatic for any family," Commissioner authorities said.

Via a family representative, the family household has earlier said they are "overwhelmed" by the child's vanishing.

"This represents a shock to our family and acquaintances, and we are finding it difficult to comprehend what has happened," Bill Harbison said.

"Gus's disappearance is felt in all of us, and we miss him more than words can describe."
